Cocktails 101: Mojitos

Mojitos have to be my favourite cocktail to order on a night out. Since working at my new job, one of the bartenders talked me through how to make one. So here it is.

You will need:

  • Tall glass
  • Muddling spoon
  • Rolling pin
  • Havana 3 year rum
  • Caster sugar
  • Lime cordial
  • Mint leaves
  • Limes
  • Soda water

This recipe is for one person.

1. Boil some sugar water on a hob with equal parts water and sugar to create sugar syrup.

2. Chop slices of lime and place in the tall glass. Add two spoons of sugar syrup to the glass, along with a shot of lime cordial. Take six or so mint leaves and crush in your hand, beat the leaves and add to the glass. Mash these ingredients with the rolling pin.

3. Add a double shot of rum to the glass, along with crushed ice. Top up the glass with soda water.

4. Tease the mint up to the surface of the drink with a muddling spoon and you have yourself a mojito! Add more sugar syrup or lime cordial depending on your tastebuds.

Enjoy!
