Praia da Sunshine

In case you hadn’t realised by now, I quite like to travel. I like experiencing new things, meeting new people and seeing new countries. But sometimes it’s nice to slow the tempo and take some time to just sit back in the sun with a good book. Luckily enough, I have a few connections and managed to bag an invite on a girls holiday to Portugal for nothing more than the flight cost.

Reading List:

Norwegian Wood – Haruki Murakami

Frost/Nixon: Behind the Scenes of the Nixon Interviews – David Frost (with Bob Zelnick)

Capital Crimes: London Mysteries – Edited by Martin Edwards

Over the course of a week of 40°C temperatures, me and four others I mostly know from sixth form tanned, ate dangerous levels of pasta and were almost swept out to sea on a pedalo (fortunately we were rescued by an attractive local with a speedboat). It was so refreshing to go for an early morning swim before everyone else was around before fresh coffee and pastries from the local convenience store. A typical day would progress with sunbathing between 11am and 3pm, broken up by another dip, and ending with large amounts of gin. Perfect!

My favourite moment would have to be our three hour kayak tour of the coast surrounding Lagos, as courtesy of the tanned boys at Kayak Tours. They were great guides and I got to go snorkelling for the first time ever! The coastline was gorgeous, even better for the lazy ride we hitched back with a speedboat. I also have to mention the experience that was riding an inflatable sofa towed by a speedboat which was quite frankly one of the most fun and terrifying moments of my life. The people towing us definitely enjoyed our screams more than was necessary.

I’m back in England now, more blonde, bruised and tanned than before, but feeling thoroughly relaxed!
